MORGAN PARK — The railroad crossing just south of Metra's 111th Street Station will be closed through July 14.

Metra is performing a "crossing renewal" near the train depot at 11046 S. Hale Ave. in Morgan Park, said Meg Thomas-Reile, a spokeswoman for the commuter rail provider.

"Work includes the removal and replacement of rails, ties, ballast, rubber panels and asphalt," Reile said. "Crossing renewals are part of the railroad’s regular maintenance cycle."

The project costs roughly $300,000, and Metra will perform similar work on 28 additional crossings this year, including crossings at 99th and 102nd streets along its Rock Island District Line, Reile said.

No further information about the timetable for future work is available, she said.
