CHICAGO — A 17-year-old girl was shot and killed and two others wounded in South Shore on June 7, police said.

At 5:03 p.m., the three victims were riding in a car in the 1700 block of East 79th Street when another car drove up and someone inside fired shots at them, police said. The victims' car then hit a light pole in the 1800 block of East 79th Street.

The 17-year-old was shot in her body and taken to Advocate Christ Medical Center.

The teen, identified as Kyra Young, of the 4500 block of South Prairie Avenue, was pronounced dead at 6:33 p.m., according to the Cook County Medical Examiner's Office. An autopsy showed she died from multiple gunshot wounds in a homicide.

A 20-year-old man was shot in his face and taken to Northwestern Hospital, where he was in critical condition, police said. Officials first said he had died.

A boy or man, whose age was not immediately available, was injured in the crash, but his injuries were not life-threatening, police said. He was taken to Advocate Christ Medical Center, where his condition was not available but he was listed as "stable," police said.

The 20-year-old man was a documented gang member, a police source said.

No one was in custody.
