HYDE PARK — Avoid the Midway Plaisance on Saturday as streets around Hyde Park are closed for convocation at the University of Chicago.

Roads will be closed and parking restricted around campus starting on Friday and ramping up on Saturday as the university’s graduation ceremonies kick off.

The crowds will be around longer than normal this year as the university adds Class Day on Friday, which includes events around campus for students and their families culminating with a speech by alumnus and New York Times columnist David Brooks.

Ka Yee C. Lee, a chemistry professor at the university, will give the convocation address Saturday.

As students and their families come to campus for the ceremonies, major streets around campus will be closed from 4 a.m. to as late as 8 p.m. Saturday for the streets immediately surrounding the main quadrangle.

The Midway Plaisance will be closed from 7 a.m.-5 p.m. from Stony Island Avenue to Cottage Grove Avenue and will only be passable for north and south traffic at Woodlawn Avenue.

For a full list of parking restrictions and street closures for convocation, visit the university’s website.
