CHICAGO — Mayor Rahm Emanuel and Supt. Eddie Johnson Wednesday condemned the "senseless shootings" that have targeted officers four times in four days.

"There is never a justification for any attack against law enforcement," the mayor and the top cop said in a joint statement. "These senseless shootings are a powerful reminder of the duty and danger the men and women of CPD accept as a part of their service to our city. As we all pray for the speedy recovery of our officers, let us always remember their sacrifices and honor their selfless commitment to the city of Chicago."

A 12-year-old boy and two teenagers were charged in connection with the shooting in the 3100 block of west 13th Street at 8 p.m. Monday when shots were fired from a car at officers, officials said.

Neither officer was hit during the incident.

In the most recent incident, two officers were driving in the 2900 block of north Newland Avenue at 11:54 p.m. Monday, when they saw two men or boys in a gray car fire shots at them, hitting a nearby car, according to a Chicago Police news release.

The officers chased the gray car into an alley, where they had an "armed confrontation" with the two people inside, police said. An officer fired his gun, hitting the passenger in the car. Neither officer was injured.

There have been four police-involved shootings since Friday, when officers shot dead a man in Washington Park. Another man was shot by an officer and critically wounded on Saturday after he struggled with officers, leading to an officer being shot in his hand, police said.

The Chicago Police Department released its new Use of Force policy in May.
