Shantae Nevith, 22, Killed; Attacker Later Found Dead, Officials Say

CHICAGO — A man shot Shantae Nevith, 22, to death in Logan Square before fleeing and taking his own life Sunday, officials said.

At 12:25 p.m., the man, 22, was arguing with a 22-year-old woman in the 2500 block of West Lyndale Street in Logan Square when he fired shots at her, police said. The woman was hit in her head and back.

The woman was taken to Stroger Hospital in critical condition, police said.

Nevith, of the 100 block of North Kostner Avenue, was pronounced dead at 1:57 p.m., according to the Cook County Medical Examiner's Office.

At 7:34 p.m., the man was found dead in the 4300 block of West Carroll Avenue in Garfield Park, police said. He had shot himself in his head and was pronounced dead at the scene.

The man was identified as Charles Torrence Jr., of the 100 block of North Kostner Avenue, by the Medical Examiner's Office. He was pronounced dead at 7:44 p.m.

The man and woman's argument was "domestic-related," a police source said.
