CHICAGO — A man on a bike groped a 12-year-old girl Monday in West Rogers Park, police said.

At 7:30 p.m., the girl was in the 6000 block of North Rockwell Street when the man came from behind her on a bike and grabbed her buttocks and chest, according to a Chicago Police news release. The girl threatened to scream and the man rode his bike away, going through the north alley of Peterson Avenue near Rockwell Street.

The man was described as white, 20-25 years old, 5-foot-10 to 6-foot-1 and 150-175 pounds, police said. He had black hair with brown eyes. The man was wearing a red and black sweater and a red, white and black hat. He might have had an earring in his right ear. He rode a black mountain bike.

Parents should ask their children to walk in pairs or with groups of friends, police said, and they should know to tell adults about "suspicious activity."

Anyone with information about the incident was asked to call police at 312-492-3810.
