CHICAGO — A 69-year-old man was pistol-whipped and robbed by three boys in Gage Park late Tuesday, but was able to stab one of attackers during the robbery, police said.

At 11:42 p.m., the man was sitting in his parked car in the 2900 block of West 59th Street when three boys walked up to him, police said. One of the boys had a gun, and he hit the man in his face with it, police said.

The boy pulled the man out of his car and said they were robbing him, police said. The boys got into the man's car and he struggled with them, and the man took out a pocket knife and stabbed the gun-toting boy in his back.

The boys got out of the car and ran away, taking the man's car keys, police said.

The boys went to Holy Cross Hospital for treatment, and officers found them there, police said. The boy who had been stabbed was taken to Mount Sinai in good condition for treatment. The boys were taken into custody and charges were pending.

The man had a cut above his left eye and was treated at Holy Cross Hospital, police said.

An investigation was ongoing.
