CHICAGO — Terrance Johnson, 25, was shot dead in Austin on Tuesday, officials said.
At 1:05 a.m., officers were patrolling the 5100 block of West Madison Street when they saw a crowd gathered around the man, who was unresponsive and lying on the ground, police said.
The man had been shot in his head and was taken to Mount Sinai Hospital in critical condition, police said.
Johnson, of the 5400 block of West Jackson Boulevard, was pronounced dead at 5:14 p.m., according to the Cook County Medical Examiner's Office. An autopsy showed he died from a gunshot wound in his head in a homicide.
He was a documented gang member, a police source said. The circumstances of the shooting were unknown.
No one was in custody.
