COOK COUNTY CRIMINAL COURTHOUSE — Two people have been charged with robbing a 25-year-old man in Boystown early Wednesday.
The man was walking in the 3200 block of North Halsted Street about 2:50 a.m. Wednesday when two people grabbed him, pulled his hands behind his back and forced him in to a nearby alley, police and prosecutors said.
After a brief struggle, the attackers escaped with the man's leather wallet, which contained an ID, a bank card and $900 cash, according to court records.
The man was able to flag down police, who arrested two suspects shortly after 3 a.m. Wednesday near Halsted Street and Belmont Avenue, according to an arrest report.
Edward Smith, 22, of the 7800 block of South Escanaba Avenue; and Kenneth Manning, 20, of the 4000 block of North Sheridan Road, are charged with robbery.
Bail for Smith was set at $100,000. Cook County Judge Donald Panarese Jr. said Manning can be released on his own recognizance so long as he qualifies for an electronic-monitoring program. If not, Manning will be responsible for $50,000 bail.
