CHICAGO — Health experts and activists will gather this weekend at the second Social Medicine Consortium.
The conference brings together people to focus on "social medicine," a field that looks at how social conditions can play a role in health care. Dr. Julie Morita, the commissioner of the city's Department of Public Health, will be one of the keynote speakers.
Participants will be able to learn about how social and structural factors play a role in people's health in Chicago. There will also be sessions on achieving health equity by campaigning against racism and organizing to help those who have been marginalized.

The conference is Saturday at Malcolm X College. Registration is $50 for the public or $25 students and is available online. The conference will also be streamed on Facebook.
There will be a post-conference march and rally for health care as a human right. Participants will meet in front of Malcolm X College and march to Pasteur Park, where the rally starts at 5:30 p.m. Healthcare workers are encouraged ot bring their white coats.
