CHICAGO — Lake Street was closed between Michigan and Wabash avenues Monday after a scaffolding used by window washers atop a high rise became insecure, officials said.
A scaffolding on the roof of the 41-story MILA Apartments, 301 N. Garland Court, developed a problem around 3 p.m. and was teetering over the roof's edge, according to officials at the scene.
Police and fire department officials closed off Lake Street to cars and pedestrians. Crews were working to stabilize the scaffolding. No injuries were reported.
Shortly before 5 p.m. the Chicago Fire Department said crews were still trying to secure the scaffolding. As of 6:30 p.m., the scaffolding remained in the same place and the street below was still blocked off.
A representative for MILA Apartments declined to comment on what caused the situation. The police did not immediately comment.
