CHICAGO — "Empire" actor Morocco Omari has been charged with domestic battery, officials said.

At 2:30 p.m. Wednesday, officers were called to the 5300 block of South Hyde Park Boulevard by a 24-year-old woman who said her boyfriend, Omari, had pushed her to the ground, scratching her neck and chest, police said.

Omari was charged with domestic battery and appeared in court Thursday. Records showed Omari was released on his own recognizance pending trial.

His next court date is April 20.

On "Empire," which is filmed in Chicago, Omari plays Tariq Cousins. Cousins is the half-brother to main character Lucious Lyon, played by actor Terrence Howard.
