WICKER PARK — A new bar and restaurant named The Delta will soon replace the shuttered Monarch, according to liquor and outdoor patio licenses filed with the city and signs papering the window announcing an opening in "spring 2017."

Located at 1745 W. North Ave. — on a less-traversed section of North Avenue three blocks east of the busy Milwaukee-Damen-North intersection — The Delta is owned by Eldridge Latrelle Williams.

Williams could not immediately be reached for comment.

Real estate broker Joe Padorr, who represented the building owner, said he brought on The Delta a few months ago to take over the former Monarch, which closed after nearly four years.

"Wicker Park is a great area for restaurants and Eldridge has experience having worked with several restaurant groups," Padorr said. "We had a lot of interest in that property; they had the best chance of long term success."

Known for its weekend brunch, quiet back patio and a massive wax candle at the bar that had been burning during the hangout's entire run, The Monarch closed last fall following an eviction.

Currently, the sign hanging in front of the storefront has duct tape over the name of The Monarch, but the blue crown is still prominently featured.
