CHICAGO — A 21-year-old man is dead after being shot in the back in South Chicago Friday afternoon, police said.

The incident occurred in the 8700 block of South Saginaw Avenue at 4:54 p.m.

When officers arrived, they found the victim unresponsive at the scene.

A handgun was found in his waistband, police said.

Timothy Shannon, of the 1400 block of East 65th Place, was pronounced dead at 5:12 p.m., according to the Cook County Medical Examiner's Office.

No one was in custody.
