CHICAGO — Police are urging residents to be cautious after a man tried to lure a 13-year-old girl to his car in Lincoln Park.

The girl was walking to school about 7:35 a.m. Monday in the 900 block of West Wrightwood Avenue when a car pulled up alongside her, police said in a community alert. The driver called out to the girl and tried to engage in conversation, but she kept walking.

The driver stopped again about a half block later, police said. The girl again ignored him and pulled out her phone to call for help. She soon lost sight of the car.

Police described the driver as a white man in his late teens or early 20s with dark shaggy hair. He had no facial hair and was not wearing glasses. The car was possibly a newer, white or cream-colored car.

Officers are encouraging residents to walk in pairs, avoid strangers and strange vehicles, and call 911 to report any suspicious behavior.

Anyone with information is asked to call detectives at 312-744-8200.
