WEST LOOP — A 56-year-old man has been charged with beating a clerk at a West Loop convenience store, police said.

Robert Taylor, 56, of the 1400 block of West Monroe Street, was charged with battery causing bodily harm after he beat a 23-year-old 7-Eleven clerk in the West Loop, police said.

At about 8:15 p.m. Thursday, Taylor entered 7-Eleven, 200 S. Racine Ave., jumped behind the register and began beating the victim, police said. The clerk was injured and drove himself to the hospital, a law enforcement source said.

Taylor was later arrested after he was identified by the victim, police said.

A 7-Eleven manager declined to answer questions about the incident.

In a separate incident, Taylor was arrested for threatening people at a West Loop pharmacy in 2016.

About 1:30 a.m. Feb. 26, 2016, Taylor was at Walgreens, 111 S. Halsted St., when employees asked him to leave but he refused. Taylor then threatened to hurt people in the store, police said.

When police officers arrived Taylor began flailing and kicking his arms and legs, police said. Taylor was then charged with two counts of assault and two counts of resisting arrest.
