RIVER NORTH — A carjacker threatened a woman with a knife before taking her Mercedes out of a River North parking lot during Monday's evening rush, police said.

The knifed man robbed the woman as she was getting into her black Mercedes SUV at 4:48 p.m. Monday in the 300 block of West Huron Street, police said. Another man tried to intervene but backed off after the carjacker swung his knife at him, police said.

No injuries were reported but the woman was "in fear for her life," said Officer Michael Carroll, a Chicago police spokesman.

Police described the suspect as a 6-foot to 6-foot-3 black man between 30-45 years old weighing between 150-200 pounds. He was last seen wearing a gray hooded sweatshirt and bright green winter cap.
