ENGLEWOOD — Mothers Against Senseless Killings, nicknamed the “Army of Moms,” will set up on multiple corners during spring break at Chicago Public Schools.

The break, from April 10-14, means students will be out and about, so the group wants to ensure their safety, organizers said.

“We invite you to sit out with the moms and men of MASK as we watch over children, our neighbors and build community,” the group said on its Facebook post. “Come sit with us, or on your own blocks. Share pictures of your own neighborhood sit-outs with us on our Facebook page.

“It will be huge. Believe us. We can build communities very inexpensively...GREAT, GREAT communities, all over the city and the nation. No one can build communities better than you can.”

The group formed in June 2015 after the slaying of 34-year-old Lucille Barnes in the 7500 block of South Stewart. MASK founder Tamar Manasseh said she hoped to stop any retaliatory violence by setting up patrols and hosting cookouts in the area.

The group will set up on:

• April 10 at 75th Street and Stewart Avenue

• April 11 at Monroe Street and Kostner Avenue

• April 12 at Washington Street and Central Avenue

• April 13 at Garfield Boulevard and Loomis Avenue

• April 14 at a location to be determined later.
