SOUTH LOOP — More burglaries are being reported at construction sites Downtown, this time in the South Loop, police say.

In the crimes, the suspect or suspects cut through chain link fences or locks to break into the construction sites, where they take supplies, power tools, and other equipment, police said.

Police said the weekend burglaries were committed:

• Some time between 10:45 p.m. March 10 and 6:45 a.m. March 13 in the 100 block of East Cermak Road.

•Some time between 4 p.m. March 10 and 8 a.m. March 13 in the 1400 block of South Michigan Avenue.

Police do not have a physical description of the suspect or suspects.

The burglaries follow a spate of similar break-ins last month further north in the Loop

The South Loop, once a Downtown afterthought, is now replete with construction cranes as developers move into the neighborhood in a major way. About 15,000 new homes are on deck in the Loop and South Loop, in addition to commercial development, a bright spot in a city that has lost nearly 200,000 residents so far this century.
