PORTAGE PARK — Filament Theatre will host a three-week run of "Macbeth," performed by The Shakespeare All-Stars, starting this weekend.

The classic Shakespearean tale of deceit, ambition and betrayal will show after weekend matinees of Filament's main production, "The Adventures of Robin Hood," which runs until March 19.

The All-Stars' production of "Macbeth" strikes a special chord in the context of today's headlines, according to Ellen Cribbs, the play's director.

"In a world where selfishness and self-promotion have become so celebrated and accepted, it helps to remember the potential pitfalls of putting your life in the hands of blind and greedy ambition," Cribbs wrote in a release for the play.

"Macbeth" will show at Filament Theatre, 4041 N. Milwaukee Ave., at 7 p.m. Fridays, Saturdays and Sundays until March 5, with a 9 a.m. matinee Feb. 23. Tickets cost $15 for adults and $10 for students and seniors, and can be bought online.
