COOK COUNTY CRIMINAL COURTHOUSE — Two people have been charged in a West Side police chase that caused a crash in University Village that sent two police officers to the hospital.

According to an arrest report, Chicago Police officers on patrol in North Lawndale spotted a grey Dodge Caravan with Kentucky license plates driving without headlights in the 4200 block of West Cullerton Street at 11:45 p.m. Tuesday.

Officers curbed the minivan and exited their squad car, the report said. At that point, the Caravan's driver took off speeding.

He continued to speed through several red lights and stop signs, police said. In the 2700 block of West Ogden Avenue, officers noticed someone inside the minivan throw marijuana out the window, records show. Police later recovered $30 worth of the drug.

As the chase went through the intersection of Roosevelt Road and Damen Avenue, police said, a squad car was struck by a Nissan Sentra heading south on Damen.

The two officers were taken to the hospital, where they were treated and released. The two males in the other care refused medical attention.

Police lost sight of the Caravan, records show, but driver Letharis Arnold and passenger Kenzie Whitlow were arrested shortly after midnight on the Bishop Ford Expy. near 115th Street when the minivan ran out of gas, records show.

Arnold, 24, of the 9700 block of South Wentworth Avenue, is charged with felony aggravated fleeing and felony possession of a controlled substance, police said. Officers allegedly found what they believe to be MDMA in Arnold's pocket.

Arnold was also cited for driving without a license, running a red light, running two stop signs and driving without headlights.

Whitlow, 33, of the 5200 block of West Monroe, is charged with misdemeanor possession of marijuana. His booking photo was not released.
