IRVING PARK — A slew of infrastructure improvements are slated for the 33rd Ward this year, from gas and water main replacements to sewer work.

Want to know if your street — or regular commuting route — will be torn up by utility or city crews? The ward office has put together a color-coded interactive map of current and pending projects (click here).

Most notably, Peoples Gas, which has been upgrading its system since 2011, will begin replacing pipes throughout the ward this year. Indoor meters will be moved outdoors, service disruptions are to be expected, and landscaping will be disturbed. Peoples Gas is on the hook for restoration.

"It's going to be painful," Ald. Deb Mell told constituents at a recent community meeting.

The ward office has posted a detailed timetable for the gas main project, and a list of frequently asked questions that outlines what residents can expect is available online.

Communities within the 33rd Ward include Albany Park, Avondale, Irving Park and Ravenswood Manor.
