Thieves Pretend To Sell Items On Social Media, Rob Would-be Customers: Cops

CHICAGO — Thieves are using social media to lure and rob victims at gunpoint in Englewood, police said.

During two robberies, a thief or thieves used social media to pretend to sell items and lure a victim to them, according to a Chicago Police community alert. The thieves robbed the victim at gunpoint when he or she met up with them to buy the items.

The robberies occurred:

• 6:30 p.m. Jan. 6 in the 6500 block of South Peoria Street

• 10 p.m. Jan. 13 in the 6700 block of South Green Street

The thief from the Peoria Street robbery was described as a black man who was 20-25 years old and had short dreadlocks, police said. During the Green Street incident, the robber was described as a black man who had a black woman with him. No further description was available.
