Shooting At Cop In Albany Park Leads To Charges Against 2 Men, Police Say

CHICAGO — Two men have been charged with attempted murder after one shot at an officer in the Albany Park neighborhood, police said.

At 7:23 p.m. Sunday, Fernando Brieto-Solano was inside a car when he fired shots at an off-duty sergeant and another man who were walking in the 4500 block of North Kedzie, according to a Chicago Police news release.

The sergeant fired back, hitting Brieto-Solano in his head, police said. Brieto-Solano went to Swedish Covenant Hospital for treatment.

Juan Ramirez, who who was in the car with Brieto-Solano, hid the gun Brieto-Solano had used once they were at the hospital, police said.

Brieto-Solano, 22, of the 2700 block of North Major Avenue, has been charged with attempted murder, police said. Ramirez, 26, of the 2700 block of North Major Avenue, has been charged with attempted murder and unlawful use of weapon.

The men were scheduled to appear in bond court on Tuesday.
