CHICAGO — A shooting in Austin killed one man and critically wounded another on Monday, police said.

At 9:47 a.m., the men were inside a car driving in the 4500 block of West Lexington Street when a black SUV pulled alongside them and someone inside the SUV fired shots, police said.

One man, 21, was sitting in the rear of the car and was hit in his head, police said. Another man, 23, was sitting in the passenger seat of the car and was also hit in his head.

The driver was not wounded and took the victims to West Suburban Hospital, where the men were in critical condition, police said.

The 21-year-old man was later pronounced dead, police said, while the 23-year-old was stabilized and transferred to Stroger Hospital.

Brandon Jones, 21, of the 1100 block of North Latrobe, was pronounced dead at 10:07 a.m., according to the Cook County Medical Examiner's Office. An autopsy showed he died from multiple gunshot wounds in a homicide.

A car that was possibly involved in the shooting was involved in a crash near the Eisenhower Expy. ramp to Cicero Avenue following the shooting, State Police said.

No one was in custody.
