NORTH CENTER — To make Christmas tree recycling more convenient for residents, the Northcenter Neighborhood Association has set up a centralized drop-off point for the pines, in addition to the city's 24 official sites.

On the next two Saturdays, between 9 a.m. and 4 p.m., trees will be collected in a designated area at North Center Town Square, 4100 N. Damen Ave. Volunteers will then haul the trees to the city's nearest recycling site at Clark Park, 3400 N. Rockwell St.

Wreaths and garlands are not accepted.

All ornaments, lights and tinsel must be removed from trees, which are converted into mulch. Last year, more than 19,000 trees were mulched, according to the Department of Streets and Sanitation.

Free mulch is available for pick-up at a handful of the city's recycling sites, including North Park Village Nature Center, 5801 N. Pulaski Road.

The city's tree recycling sites are open through Jan. 21.
