Each Chinese New Year is represented by one of 12 animals which appear in the Chinese zodiac. The Year of the Rooster is the 10th animal in the cycle.

People born in the Year of the Rooster are said to be kind-hearted, hard-working, courageous and, at times, arrogant and self-aggrandizing. Rooster years are believed by some to be one of the most unlucky years in the Chinese calendar.

The Chicago Chinese New Year parade attracts a crowd of an estimated 30,000 annually.
