CHICAGO — A 15-year-old boy carjacked a FedEx truck at gunpoint in Auburn Gresham Wednesday before crashing into a car and then into a fence, police said.

The teen was in a car that pulled up alongside the delivery truck at 6:40 a.m. Wednesday in the 7500 block of South Green Street, police said. CBS2 reported it was a FedEx truck.

A 15-year-old got out of the car, walked up to the delivery driver and pulled a handgun, police said. The driver then tossed the boy her keys, and he got into the truck and drove off, police said.

Officers saw the truck near 67th Street and Wentworth Avenue, where the truck struck a car in the intersection but kept driving, police said.

The teen then hit a fence and the truck came to a stop. He then ran away but was caught by officers, police said.

He was arrested and taken to St. Bernard Hospital to treat injuries he suffered in the crash.

The boy has been charged with one felony county of aggravated vehicular hijacking with a firearm, one felony count of possession of a stolen vehicle and one felony count of aggravated fleeing, police said. His name has not been released because he is a juvenile.
