South Shore Shooting Kills Niko Walker, 21, Police Say

CHICAGO — A 21-year-old man was shot dead in South Shore early Sunday, police said.

At 12:49 a.m., the man was found dead in the backyard of a residence in the 2600 block of East 76th Street, police said.

He was hit in his head and was pronounced dead at the scene, police said.

He was later identified as Niko L. Walker, of the 5700 block of South Paxton Avenue, by the Cook County Medical Examiner's Office.

Walker was a documented gang member, police said.

No one was in custody.
