CHICAGO — A speeding driver caused a five-car crash early Thursday morning in Old Town, police said.
At 2:48 a.m., the driver of a Pontiac was speeding in the 300 block of West Division Street when he drifted across the median and hit a taxi, police said. The Pontiac driver then rear-ended another car, which was being driven by an on-duty police driver.
The Pontiac driver then hit a Mercedes from the rear, making the Mercedes hit a Nissan that was in front of it, police said.
The driver of the Pontiac, a 36-year-old man, and his passenger, a 38-year-old woman, were taken to Northwestern and Illinois Masonic hospitals, police said. The driver of Mercedes, a man, was taken to Northwestern Hospital. All had non-life-threatening injuries.
The driver of the Pontiac was taken into custody and citations and charges were pending, police said.
