COOK COUNTY CRIMINAL COURTHOUSE — A South Side man was held without bail Thursday in the July shooting that left one person dead and another critically wounded.
The attack happened about 4:25 p.m. July 25 in the 6600 block of South Michigan Avenue.
Vincent Davis, 45, was sitting in a car with two other people when Devontay Murray pulled a gun and fired multiple rounds into the vehicle, Assistant State's Attorney Jullian Brevard said during a bond hearing Thursday.
Davis was fatally shot five times and pronounced dead on the scene.
A 22-year-old woman in the car was shot three times and later rushed to Advocate Christ Medical Center. She still has one bullet lodged in her kidney, Brevard said, and wears a colostomy bag.
The third passenger was unharmed.
Moments after the shooting, an unknown man who'd been with Murray reached into the car and punched Davis, prosecutors said. The two men then fled.
Two witnesses were able to identify Murray as the shooter. He was arrested Wednesday in prison, where he is currently serving time for a 2016 aggravated-robbery conviction. Details of that case were not immediately available.
Murray, of the 6600 block of South Michigan Avenue, is charged with first-degree murder and attempted first-degree murder.
Cook County Judge Maria Kuriakos Ciesil on Thursday denied Murray bail.
