CHICAGO — Kids can ride Metra trains for free during the upcoming holidays, the commuter rail agency announced Monday.

Under Metra's expanded "Family Fares" program, up to three kids 11 and younger can ride for free with each paying adult from Saturday through Jan. 2.

“We want to make it as easy and stress free as possible for families to experience the magic of the holiday season,” Metra's executive director and CEO Don Orseno said.

Metra will also extend its Weekend Pass, which provides unlimited rides for $8, to cover each of the three-day holiday weekends on Dec. 24-26 and Dec. 31-Jan. 2.
