NORTH CENTER — The FBI is investigating a pair of bank robberies pulled off by two different men in North Center and Lincoln Square.

At approximately 3:40 p.m. Thursday, a man disguised in a wig and large sunglasses robbed the TCF Bank inside the Jewel-Osco at 4250 N. Lincoln Ave., according to the FBI.

The man is described as between 5-feet-10-inches and 6-feet tall, weighing just 103 pounds. He was wearing a distinctive black hooded sweatshirt with red sleeves and an Air Jordan logo.

No weapon was shown, the FBI said.

A TCF customer reported to social media that she had attempted to deposit a check shortly after the robbery and was simply told, "My system is down," by the teller, and that police arrived moments later.

"A silent alarm must have been tripped and no commotion at all," the customer posted. "Can't believe in a busy part of the day you could pull that off and have a whole grocery store full of people and no one notice."

In a separate incident on Friday at approximately 9 a.m., a man robbed the U.S. Bank at 4725 N. Western Ave.

The suspect is described as between 5-feet-6-inches and 5-feet-9-inches, in his 40s or 50s. His head and face were covered in a red knit cap and dark scarf. The man was also wearing a tan coat, dark pants and gray tennis shoes.

No weapon was shown.

Anyone with information about either of these robberies should call 312-421-6700.

According to statistics provided by the FBI, Cook County Sheriff's Office and Chicago Police Department, there have been 177 bank robberies to date in 2016 in northern Illinois, compared with 144 in 2015. In 2006, there were a high of 284 bank robberies.
