At 8:30 p.m., the man was on the street in the 3800 block of West Augusta Boulevard when he fired shots at people inside a black Chevrolet. The car then pulled over and someone inside returned fire before driving off, police said.

The man was hit in his chest and was taken in critical condition to Stroger Hospital, where he was later pronounced dead.

The man was identified as Orpheus Washington II, of the 3700 block of North Spaulding, according to Cook County Medical Examiner's Office records. Washington was pronounced dead at 9:10 p.m. and an autopsy showed he died of a gunshot wound in his torso in a homicide.
