WICKER PARK — The owner of a North Avenue bar that has become a trusty spot to catch live comedy is celebrating a third anniversary Thursday night featuring stand-up comic Mary Mack.

"The Cubs have the day off and what better way to enjoy the day off than with a few laughs and some goofs!" emailed Jim Weber, owner of @North at 1637 W. North Ave., which opened on Nov. 1, 2013.

Weber said that Mack was one of the first comics he reached out to before the bar opened and was the first to perform there in December of 2013.

"I had to piece together equipment and was still trying to figure out things. We had done some comedy/music shows together in Minneapolis many a year ago, so she was nice enough to travel here to be the first performance at a brand new place. The show was amazing and she was hilarious," Weber recalled.

Over the past three years, Mack's career has taken off and she has appeared at the Vancouver Comedy Fest, The Andy Kaufman Awards and "NBC's Last Comic Standing," according to her website.

Last month Mack cracked jokes on "Conan on TBS."

"She needs to be seen and heard. She was just on Conan and absolutely killed it," Weber said.

Zach Peterson will be hosting the show. Local comic Allison Dunne will open for Mack. And after the comedy, there will be live music with Adam Ness and Laura Burke, Weber said.

Buy tickets to "Mary Mack is Coming Back!" online for $8 in advance or $10 at the door. The show begins at 7:30 p.m. Thursday.
