PORTAGE PARK — Military veterans will showcase their creativity at a free art exhibit unveiling Friday evening at the National Veterans Art Museum, 4041 N. Milwaukee Ave.

The exhibit will feature artwork crafted by vets during an "intro to art for veterans" course at the Art Institute of Chicago, sponsored by CreatiVets, a Chicago-based non-profit.

The three-week course "teaches veterans suffering from post-traumatic stress and traumatic brain injury to use conceptual-based art and techniques in ceramics, photography and painting as tools for coping with stress, depression and anxiety," the museum said.

Attendees of the exhibition, running from 6-9 p.m. at the National Veterans Art Museum, will also be able to meet country singer-songwriter and "The Bachelorette" contestant Luke Pell.

The exhibit is slated to run until Oct. 29.
