North Side Armed Robberies Prompt Police Alert

CHICAGO — Five strong armed robberies have taken place in Ravenswood, Uptown and Lakeview this month, police said.

Multiple offenders approached people on the street or sitting in their cars, showing them a chrome/silver handgun and demand their property or vehicle. The offenders then left the area on foot or in one instance, in the victim's vehicle.

Police are looking for more information and warning residents in the Town Hall (19th) District of the robberies, which occurred:

• 2200 block of West Melrose Street on Oct. 11 at 3:30 a.m.

• 3000 block of North Ravenswood Avenue on Oct. 11 at 4:15 a.m.

• 1000 block of West Byron Street on Oct. 11 at 4:30 a.m.

• 500 block of West Briar Place on Oct. 11 at 5:15 a.m.

• 800 block of West Lakeside Place on Oct. 14 at 4:46 p.m.

Police said the offenders are described as 3-4 black males, between the ages of 18-20. In the incidents that occurred on Oct. 11, one offender was wearing a red hooded sweatshirt and another was wearing a grey hooded sweatshirt.
