CHICAGO — A shooting on the East Side left 22-year-old Luis Romero dead Tuesday afternoon, police said.

About 4:50 p.m., Romero was standing outside in the 9400 block of South Ewing Avenue when he heard shots and felt pain, said Officer Laura Amezaga, a Chicago Police Department spokeswoman.

He was hit in his torso and was taken to Northwestern Hospital in critical condition, Amezaga said. He was pronounced dead at 6:30 p.m.

Romero, who lived in the 10300 block of South Avenue L, was identified Wednesday by the Cook County Medical Examiner's Office.

No one was in custody.
