Andersonville Arts Weekend Returns With Block Party And Tons Of Artists

ANDERSONVILLE — Andersonville will celebrate dozens of local artists and designers this weekend with its 14th annual Andersonville Arts Weekend.

From Oct. 14-16, more than 30 businesses in the neighborhood will showcase more than 90 artists and musicians. The weekend will also include a block party with an outdoor stage, music hosted by First Free, special receptions and a variety of live shows and performances, according to the Andersonville Chamber of Commerce website.

The party officially kicks off at 6 p.m. Friday with an evening of opening receptions known as the Night of 100 pARTies. The chamber will host its own opening reception for the Night of 100 pARTies at a pop-up gallery at 5438 N. Clark St. Its reception will feature seven artists with works ranging from abstract paintings to complex dioramas, performances by Broken Current and Gome Jazz Trio, and samples from TrueNorth Cafe and Chutney Davis, according to a press release.

Art Pop at 5438 will also serve as the Arts Weekend Hub, where participants can meet guests and pick up brochures and maps.

The Night of 100 pARTies features artwork from nearly 100 artists at hosted events at businesses throughout the neighborhood, many of which will host meet and greets with the featured artist, plus food and beverage offerings, according to the release.

Interactive experiences include: a collaboration between metalsmith HVNTER GVTHERER and Milk Handmade, 5137 N. Clark St., allowing guests to hammer an anvil; painting your own canvas at Candyality, 5225 N. Clark St.; and Martha Mae: Art Supplies and Happenings, 5407 N. Clark St., will set out an array of supplies for guests to doodle with while enjoying snacks from deFloured Bakery.

From 6-10 p.m. Friday and 3-10 p.m. Saturday, First Free Chicago will host a block party on Berwyn Avenue between Clark Street and Ashland Avenue. Friday night action includes performances by Variations Trio and The Color Green. Saturday action includes kids crafts, a family dance workshop, caricature drawings, as well as performances by The pH Comedy Theater and She's Folks.
