THE LOOP — A 26-year-old man was found fatally shot near a parking garage next to the Willis Tower Wednesday night, and a source said he may have taken his own life.

The incident happened at 7:30 pm. Wednesday in the 300 block of South Franklin Street just south of the Willis Tower, Chicago Police said.

He was discovered with a gunshot wound to the chest and leg on the sidewalk below the 13-story parking garage, said Officer Thomas Sweeney, a Chicago Police spokesman. The man was transported to Northwestern Memorial Hospital in critical condition, Sweeney said, and was later pronounced dead.

A police source said the incident is being investigated as an apparent suicide. It is believed that the man also fell off of the parking garage structure.

The CPD SWAT team and police dogs could be seen searching the roof of the Skydeck parking garage. The ground level of the structure houses Franklin Tap, a payday loan store and restaurants.

As of 9 p.m., a stretch of Franklin was still closed down between Van Buren and Jackson as Area Central detectives investigated the incident.
