Washington Heights Burglaries Occurring While Homeowners At Work: Police

WASHINGTON HEIGHTS — Five burglaries have occurred during daytime hours in Washington Heights in the last few weeks, according to the Chicago Police Department.

Police in the Morgan Park District issued a community alert in the wake of the burglaries they said occur when the thieves entered the homes through a window and left through the back door.

The burglaries in all happened while the homeowners were at work, and the thieves first rang the doorbell to see if anyone was home. One of the burglars is described as a black man about 17 years old, weighing approximately 170 pounds and standing 5-foot-7, police said.

The burglaries occurred:

• At 9:30 a.m. Sept. 6 in the 8700 block of South Carpenter Street

• At 10:30 a.m. Sept. 8 in the 9200 block of South May Street

• Between 7 a.m.-7 p.m. Sept. 21 in the 9100 block of South May Street

• Between 8 a.m.-7 p.m. Sept. 23 in the 8800 block of South Carpenter Street

• Between 7 a.m.-2 p.m. Sept. 29 in the 8800 block of South May Street
