CHICAGO — University of Illinois-Chicago campus police responded to calls of a creepy clown on campus Tuesday and found a student dressed in the costume for a performance art piece, according to the university.
Campus police responded to calls of a menacing clown walking around the school Tuesday afternoon, according to news reports. Officers who detained the clown determined that the clown was a student dressed up for a "performance-art project," the school said in a tweet.
"We take these calls seriously," UIC Police said in a tweet from its public relations account.

The student was questioned but not arrested, according to NBC5 Chicago.
The incident is one of a number of creepy clown sightings reported across the country recently. The clown threats have largely centered around schools, including a Northwest Side CPS school, that alert Chicago Police to a potential threat this week.
