ASHBURN — Omar Rangel, 20, was found shot to death in a parked car on the city's Southwest Side on Sunday morning, police said.

Around 6:10 a.m., officers found Rangel unconscious in the 8200 block of South Scottsdale Avenue with gunshot wounds in his head and chest, said Officer Michelle Tannehill, a Chicago Police spokeswoman.

Rangel, of the 8400 block of South Kilbourn Avenue, was pronounced dead at 6:30 a.m., according to Cook County Medical Examiner's Office records.

Rangel was found with a gun in his hand, and detectives thought the gunshot wounds "may have been self-inflicted," Tannehill said. An autopsy later determined Rangel died of multiple gunshot wounds in his chest in a homicide.

Police said Rangel was a documented gang member and a convicted felon.
