1-Month-Old Girl Was Beaten To Death, Officials Say

By Kelly Bauer | September 20, 2016 2:53pm | Updated on September 23, 2016 11:35am

CHICAGO — Authorities said Tuesday they have concluded that a one-month-old baby who died in June was beaten to death.

The infant, Evette West, was pronounced dead at 12:11 p.m. June 16 at Advocate Christ Medical Center, according to Cook County Medical Examiner's Office records.

An autopsy showed the girl died from blunt force injuries to her head in a homicide, according to the Medical Examiner's Office.

West's mother was being investigated by the Department of Child and Family Services for allegations of abuse, a spokeswoman said, and the investigation was pending.

Two of West's siblings had been removed from the family home in the 8800 block of South Muskegon Avenue and placed with a relative.

DCFS had prior contact with the family during an investigation in 2015, a probe that authorities ruled unfounded, the spokeswoman said.
