Man On Bike Tries To Rob U. Of C. Student Early Tuesday

HYDE PARK — After a man on a bike tried to rob a University of Chicago student at gunpoint early Tuesday morning, university police are warning Hyde Parkers not to resist an armed robbery.

U. of C. police issued an alert Tuesday after a student was approached by a man riding a bike who pulled out a handgun and demanded the student’s cellphone at 1:40 a.m. on 58th Street near Dorchester Avenue.

The student refused to hand over his phone, and the man rode away, heading south on Dorchester, police said.

The student reported no injuries, according to police.

U. of C. police are warning people not to resist an armed robbery.

A description of the cyclist was not given, and an arrest has not been made.
