By Kelly Bauer | September 7, 2016 2:04pm

CHICAGO — Shots were fired near a Hermosa school as kids walked to class on Wednesday morning, officials said.

At 7:54 a.m., a 27-year-old man was getting into a car in the 2700 block of North Kilbourn Avenue when someone walked up and fired a shot at him, said Officer Nicole Trainor, a Chicago Police spokeswoman.

The man, a gang member, was not hit and no one was in custody, police said.

The shooting happened at Diversey and Kilbourn, near Barry Elementary School, while kids walked to class, according to a news release from Ald. Milly Santiago (31st). No one was injured, Santiago said.

“We have understandably had a lot of calls about this shooting. ... It happened near a school and happened as children were coming to school,” Santiago said, according to the news release. “Even before we asked, [the] 25th District commander committed to having a uniformed police presence at the school corner for arrival and departure times.”
