DOWNTOWN — Blackwood BBQ is coming soon to Michigan Avenue.

The local mini-chain will open its fourth restaurant Monday inside the Illinois Center, 233 N. Michigan Ave., according to a sign posted to the restaurant's door.

Crews are already busy preparing for the opening.

The restaurant is replacing a shuttered Great Steak & Potato in the food court near Millennium Park, and once open, it will be the only barbeque place accessible via the Downtown Pedway

The opening follows that of other Blackwood restaurants in the West Loop, Loop and Lakeview. Blackwood, an assembly line-style restaurant akin to Subway, smokes its meat for up to 15 hours and offers sauces inspired by recipes across the country.

Stephanie Simpson, a Blackwood partner, said the Illinois Center location's meat will be smoked at a separate facility Downtown and trucked in multiple times per day.

Blackwood prices range from $7.99 for a pulled pork sandwich to $9.99 for a half-pound beef brisket platter with a side and pickles. The chain also serves breakfast including biscuits and gravy and biscuit sandwiches till 10:30 a.m.
