Horseshoe Bar Demolished — And Easy Rider Is Next — To Make Way For Condos

NORTH CENTER — The Horseshoe Bar met the wrecking ball last week to make way for a mixed-use condo development.

Demolition crews could be seen removing the last of the Lincoln Avenue bar's rubble on Tuesday, paving the way for construction of a new $1 million four-story building that will include six condos and ground-floor commercial space, according to permit information obtained through Chicago Cityscape.

A quintessential dive bar, the Horseshoe, 4115 N. Lincoln Ave., was also a popular venue for live country and western music. Following the death of owner Mohammed "Mike" Masud, who also operated the adjacent Easy Rider bike shop, the building went up for sale earlier this year.

Demolition permits have also been issued for the Easy Rider, 4119 N. Lincoln Ave.

Cook County records show that Aktion Partners LLC purchased the properties, with a loan of $1.2 million.

Permits reference a similar mixed-use building at 2440 W. Montrose Ave. as a "prototype" for what to expect on Lincoln Avenue.
