2 Killed, 10 Wounded In Shootings Since Tuesday Morning, Police Say

CHICAGO — Two men died and another 10 people were hurt, including a police officer and a 13-year-old girl, in shootings between Tuesday morning and Wednesday morning, police said.

Mikel Maragh, 26, died after being shot in his head in the West Loop Tuesday evening. Early Wednesday morning, another man was shot less than a mile away.

Around 10 p.m. Monday, 40-year-old Kenneth Carrington was killed in a shooting in Grand Crossing that also left a 13-year-old girl with a graze wound in her leg.

About the same time, an officer was grazed in his face by a bullet while exchanging gunfire with a man suspected of a carjacking in Roseland.

• Most recently, at 3:59 a.m. Wednesday morning, two men were riding in a car in the 7600 block of South Stony Island Avenue in South Shore when someone shot at them from a burgundy Ford Focus, according to a police incident report.

One man, 27, was brought to Stroger Hospital in critical condition with gunshot wounds in his face, chest and leg, police said.

Another man, 28, was also brought to Stroger Hospital, where he was listed in critical condition after being shot in his back.

• At 10:35 p.m. Tuesday night, a 37-year-old man was shot in his head in the 2200 block of South Kirkland Avenue in North Lawndale, police said.

The man was taken to Mount Sinai Hospital in critical condition, police said.

• At the same time, about a half-mile away in the 4000 block of West Cermak Road, a 23-year-old man was standing outside when he heard gunshots and felt pain in his right hand, police said.

He was taken to Mount Sinai Hospital, where he was listed in good condition, police said.

Police said the man is a documented gang member.

• At 9:25 p.m., a 38-year-old man was shot in his leg during a robbery in West Ridge.

• At 8:36 p.m., a 24-year-old man was shot and critically wounded in Hermosa.

• Around 7 p.m., a 19-year-old woman was standing in the 1300 block of East 74th Street in Grand Crossing when someone walked up and shot at her, according to Officer Thomas Sweeney, a Chicago Police spokesman.

The woman was brought to Northwestern Memorial Hospital, where she was considered "stable" with a gunshot wound in her leg, Sweeney said.

Police said the woman did not appear to be the intended target of the shooting.
