DOWNTOWN — A damaged track on the Red Line left some people trapped underground for more than an hour while others faced major delays.
The rail was "partially damaged," though officials are not sure how, according to a CTA spokesman, who said that it is being repaired.
The issue meant some people were trapped underground for an hour or had to be evacuated, while others said they had been delayed. Everyone had been able to get off the trains by 10:30 a.m.
In the meantime, 95th/Dan Ryan-bound trains were be rerouted to the elevated lines between the Fullerton and Cermak-Chinatown stops, according to a CTA news release. Travelers were warned to plan for trips to take longer than usual. The reroute is only for southbound trains; northbound trains experienced no interruptions.
Trains stopped at Fullerton and then made these stops at elevated stations:
• Armitage
• Sedgwick
• Chicago (at Franklin)
• Merchandise Mart
• Clark/Lake
• State/Lake
• Randolph/Wabash
• Adams/Wabash
• Roosevelt
The trains stopped at Cermak-Chintatown and then made all normal stops.
